Today was Galle wedding day

Out little apartment is in a quiet residential street inside the Galle Fort - it has a couple of particularly picturesque homes, one of which is right opposite us.  We've had wedding shoots here each morning for the last 3 days - but one of todays was a beauty.  We actually had 3 this morning and throughout the day kept coming across wedding photo shoots.

These guys were here for close to an hour and I just drooled over their costumes.  The boys were in traditional Kandyan dress, and the bride in the most divine lace sari.

We thought we'd head into Galle city today and see what shopping was on offer - that turned out to be a giant nothing-burger but it was interesting seeing the city.  Out through the Old Gate, past the cricket ground and across to the Bus Station then into the narrow crowded streets of the city.
On the ay we got a closer look at the calisthenics class we saw yesterday from the Ramparts.  On the extreme left of the photo you can see one of the teachers keeping the kids in time - he was counting through a series of movements with his cymbals and a very loud voice.

We came across the Sri Meenadchi Sundareswarar Temple - it was really beautiful and unique among the Hindu temples we've seen on this trip in that it was not painted
Passing the bus station and one of their fancily painted inter city buses, a fruit stand and a group of road workers, resplendent in their matching Hi-Viz and boots.

Wandering back through the Fort we checked out a few shops.  Inside the fort are mostly fairly up-market souvenir/clothing shops & restaurants along half a dozen shopping/eating streets, a couple of upmarket hotels and the rest is residential.  Its tiny, incredibly clean & tidy and quite charming.

Sri Lanka has thousands of street dogs - some in tourist areas are reasonably well fed, others in places like Udawalawe are in terrible condition.  We came across a really cool little ship called 'Embark' - a shop run by a charity whose purpose is to help street dogs.  They had some really cool stuff and the BEST toilet we've seen here!

Home to find our little chipmunk friend (who Tony has named Alvin …..*headbang*) here for lunch.

A quiet afternoon and then out to the ramparts for sunset - along with lots of other tourists.  Nothing spectacular, but its ticked off the list.

Tomorrow we're going to hit up some of the museums here in town.
